Sydney Workshop March 23-25 2010

FIIN met in Sydney for a workshop entitled Rethinking the dynamics of political institutions: integrating gender and neo-institutionalist perspectives (March 23-25, 2010). The workshop brought together political and social scientists from North America, UK, Europe and Australia to discuss the prospects for synthesising feminist political science and institutionalist approaches in order to understand the 'big questions' of institutional creation, continuity and change.

In addition to FIIN members, participants included institutionalist scholars: Colin Hay (Sheffield), Paul Fawcett (Sydney), Vivien Lowndes (de Montfort), Rod Rhodes (Tasmania and ANU), Vivien Schmidt (Boston);  gender and politics/policy  scholars: Karen Beckwith (Case Western), Deb Brennan (UNSW), Raewyn Connell (Sydney), Sue Goodwin (Sydney),  Mary Katzenstein (Cornell), Toni Schofield (Sydney), and Laurel Weldon (Purdue); and feminist legal scholars: Helen Irving (Sydney) and Kim Rubenstein (ANU).
