Workshop on Feminist Institutionalism at ECPR Joint Sessions 2008

FIIN Directors Fiona Mackay and Mona Lena Krook held a successful workshop as part of the ECPR Joint Sessions in Rennes, France from 11-15 April 2008. The workshop was entitled Gender, Politics, and Institutions: Towards a Feminist Institutionalism?.

The workshop explored the interplay between feminist approaches to gendered institutions and new institutional theory, seeking to: (1) take stock of the state of gender and institutions research, (2) survey what is being and what could be taken from institutional theory and approaches for work on gender and politics, and (3) explore whether there is a ‘feminist institutionalism' and, if so, what it comprises (for example, a focus on gender, power, and change). Both theoretical and empirically-oriented papers were presented, which engaged the intersection between feminism and institutionalism and reflected on the potential and limits of institutionalist frameworks for the study of gender and politics.

Outputs from the workshop include a forthcoming Critical Perspectives on Feminist Institutionalism in Politics & Gender, and an edited collection (under preparation).
