FIIN Panel at First European Conference on Politics and Gender

FIIN Members Louise Chappell (University of Sydney), Meryl Kenny and Fiona Mackay (both University of Edinburgh) and Jill Vickers (Carleton University) presented papers at a panel on Gender and "Nested Newness": theorizing the limits of institutional innovation within existing systems at the First European Conference on Politics and Gender, Queens University Belfast, 21-23 January 2009. FIIN Member Georgina Waylen (Sheffield) chaired the session.

New doctor!

Congratulations to FIIN member Marjolein Paantjens (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) who was awarded a PhD after successfully defending her doctoral thesis in January 2009. Marjolein's thesis was entitled 'Political Institutions and Gender Mainstreaming: A comparative study of Belgium and the Netherlands' ('Politieke Instituties en gender mainstreaming. Een vergelijkende studie van België en Nederland')

Workshop on Feminist Institutionalism at ECPR Joint Sessions 2008

FIIN Directors Fiona Mackay and Mona Lena Krook held a successful workshop as part of the ECPR Joint Sessions in Rennes, France from 11-15 April 2008. The workshop was entitled Gender, Politics, and Institutions: Towards a Feminist Institutionalism?.

FIIN Panel at ECPR General Conference 2007

FIIN Directors Mona Lena Krook (Washington University, St Louis) and Fiona Mackay (Edinburgh) co-convened a panel entitled Towards a Feminist Institutionalism: Connecting Gender, Power, and Change at the 4th ECPR General Conference in Pisa, Italy on 8 September 2007. FIIN Members Mona Lena Krook (Washington University, St Louis), Lenita Freidenvall (Stockholm), Viola Burau (Aarhus), Marjolein Paantjens (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) presented papers, along with Professor Joyce Gelb (City College, New York). Meryl Kenny (Edinburgh) acted as discussant.

FIIN Panel at Manchester Gender Research Network Launch Conference 2007

FIIN Members Fiona Mackay (Edinburgh) and Meryl Kenny (Edinburgh) co-convened a panel on Feminist Institutionalism at the Gender Research Network Launch Conference in Manchester on 21-22 June 2007. The conference, entitled 'Engendering Policy and Politics' was an international, interdisciplinary conference hosted by the Gender Research Network, School of Social Sciences, University of Manchester. FIIN members Joan Grace (Winnipeg) and Meryl Kenny (Edinburgh) presented papers, along with Professor Marie Campbell (University of Victoria).

 

FIIN Inaugural Workshop at University of Edinburgh

A workshop to inaugurate the new Feminism and Institutionalism International Network (FIIN) took place in Edinburgh on December 8-9 2006. Scholars from Scotland, England, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the USA participated.
